Xero payroll training
Run your own pay runs and know they are right
Payroll in Xero is not difficult once somebody shows you the order it has to happen in. It is unforgiving if you learn it by trial and error, because the mistakes are filed with the ATO before you find them.
What goes wrong without it
Payroll punishes learning as you go
Nobody sets out to file the wrong figure. It happens because the steps were learned in the wrong order, and payroll is the one part of Xero where the order is the whole thing.
Finalisation before reconciliation
The year gets finalised in July because the button is there, before the payroll has been checked against the accounts behind it.
The same workaround every fortnight
Nobody showed you the right way once, so the fix somebody invented in a hurry quietly became the process.
Leave balances nobody quite believes
An employee asks how much leave they have, the number in Xero is not trusted, and a spreadsheet appears beside it to hold the real answer.
What you get
Taught on your own payroll, not on a demo company
The pay run start to finish, in the order it has to happen
Pay items, leave and personal leave set up to match what you have agreed to pay
Superannuation checked against the pay runs, and the wages payable account cleared to nil
Single Touch Payroll filing, and what to check before you file rather than after
End of year finalisation, and why it comes last
Support after the session, because a question in week six is normal
How it works
Three steps, in this order
1
A free 30-minute call
Tell us who runs payroll and what has been going wrong. We will tell you whether one session covers it, or whether the file needs repairing before training makes sense.
2
A session on your own file
Your employees, your pay items, your leave balances. We work through a real pay run rather than a demonstration, so the file is in better shape at the end than it was at the start.
3
Support afterwards
You are not on your own the first time you run it without us. Ask when something looks odd, without having to start a new engagement.
Who it suits
Who this is for
Whoever presses the buttons
The owner, the office manager or the bookkeeper, trained on the real file.
Medical and allied health
Practitioner and staff pay handled without the two being confused.
NDIS and disability care
Rostered hours and support worker pay, with timesheets flowing in.
Or hand it over instead
If the honest answer is that you never want to see payroll again.
Gold Coast businesses
Training in person, then the same team on hand once you are running it.
Questions we answer every week
Questions we are asked most
Do you train on my own file or on a demo company?
Your own file, your own employees, your own pay items. A demonstration company teaches you where the buttons are. Your own payroll teaches you what to do on the Tuesday you are running it alone.
Why pay for training when Xero publishes free courses?
Xero's own material is good, and if what you need is a tour of the software then use it. Paid training earns its place when the problem is your file rather than your knowledge of the menus, and when you want somebody reachable in week six. We will tell you honestly which one you need on the free call.
How long does it take, and what does it cost?
The length and the price of each session are shown on its booking page, read straight from our booking system, so you see both before you choose a time and never have to enquire to find out.
Is this the same thing as Xero to Hero?
No. Xero to Hero is the full training package and it begins with a health check and diagnostic of your existing setup. A payroll session is narrower and shorter: one part of Xero, taught properly, on your own file.
Can more than one person join the session?
Yes. Training runs one to one, and we also run group sessions and webinars when a whole team needs it. Tell us on the call how many people need to be in the room and we will point you at the right option.
